Brief Answer:
It suggests possible mild inflammation of airways

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Prominent bronchovascular markings signifies an appearance showing increase in the lung markings on the X ray. This usually happens when there is mild respiratory infection and the small airways are inflamed. This is not a serious concern and might cause mild cough.

2. Hilum is the area where the lung connects to the larger airways. This appearing prominent in a young person without any other history of chest illness in the past might also be due to reactive airways due to mild inflammation.

3. In conclusion, bilateral hilar prominence with bronchovascular markings may refer to mild chronic inflammation of the small air passages in the lungs. It is better to consult a pulmonologist and get tests like spirometry which evaluate lung volumes and then take any medications if necessary. Smoking must be avoided and exposure to dust limited.

Rarely, these findings are due to some diffuse lung condition which if detected, then requires to be controlled with medicine.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
