What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?
Brief Answer:
Mild non progressive lumbar scoliosis
Detailed Answer:
hi - thanks for you question,
you have a very mild lumbar scoliosis,
many people have this and don't even know!
this should not limit you in any way and you should be able to pursue any activities you wish.
many people's spines in there mid thirties would show some mild disc space narrowing and osteo pyre formation - in the absence of symptoms this is nothing to worry about.
I hope this reassures you.
best wishes

Thank you doctor for your response .. I read on internet that the one that i have is levoscoliosis and that usually levoscoliosis is the one that is dangerous and may effect the heart and lungs when i grow old ... Is lumbar levoscoliosis associated with that ? How can it be determined that this type is most likely non progressive ? Thanks
Brief Answer:
Progression unlikely
Detailed Answer:
hi thanks for the follow up question.
scoliosis usually progresses or worsens most rapidly during growth. once growth has stopped, skeletal maturity is reached, at 14 in girls and 16 in boys progression is much slower.
curves less than 40 degrees at skeletal maturity generally do not progress in adulthood. those over 40 degrees may progress in adulthood at a rate of 0.5 degrees / year.
you curve is 18 degrees and your trunk is balanced over your pelvis. it is very unlikely that your curve will progress or that you will have any respiratory difficulty secondary to your scoliosis in the future.
I hope this answers your question.
best wishes

Doc .. Thank you for your very helpful and informative answer .. Just one last follow-up question on the same subject .. ? Can lumbar levoscoliosis have a progression without it having a thoracic levolscoliosis .. I know that thoracic is more dangerous but if progression occurs with mine will this definetly progress at the thoracic level as well .. are they interdependent ? Thanks !

Question answered
Detailed Answer:
hi thanks for your question.
the lumbar curve in your back is the major curve. the thoracic curve is compensatory. both curves over time become structural (stiff / none correctable) neither of your curves should progress in adulthood. you should be reassured.
best wishes
