![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi,
I have GERD . In the past few weeks I have a) lost 10 pounds, b) have had 2 instances of dysfagia and c) have more reflux problems . I have had blood and urine tests, CT scan, chest X-rays , all came back negative.
I have requested an endoscopy , but am extremely concerned about the aforementioned problems and hope it is a condition that can be rectified. I do have an upcoming appointment with a gastroenterologist, but it is in 4 weeks. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
most commonly benign but th eworst must be ruled out
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
These are signs of GERD, gastritis and hiatal hernia and tis is th efirst thing to think of. However, weight loss isnt good sign and endoscopy should definitely be done since ct scan and xrays are not specific enough to visualize lesions inside the stomach. Till that try to avoid completely coffee, alcohol, smoking, and spicy food.
Dysfagia may be caused by esophageal disorders as well, but still it cane be evaluated only by endoscopy. ALl in all, you dont have to be very concerned at this point but do endoscopy as soon as you can. Wish you good health. Regards

Thank you. I'm very anxious because I was told that rapid weight loss is almost exclusively a sign of cancer in the body? Is this true? Are there other illnesses in the digestive system that would cause this? I appreciate your time.
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Rapid weight loss is not good sign but also this is nonspecific symptoms and still not indicating cancer. But, as I said, the worst thing must be ruled out,to start treatment in time if such diagnosis is confirmed. Other diseases such as stomach ulcer, chronic pancreatitis, hepatitis or esophageal stricture may lead to weight loss and these are benign ones. Esophageal cancer is seen in smokers and alcoholics while stomach cancer can occur in any man.
