What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: I recently got my wife's thyroid profile done and attached is the report.

She did have hyper thyroid in 2012 which was cured after 6 months of medication under an endocrinologist. For last 2 months my wife frequently complaint about hair fall, frequent hunger, anxiety etc which triggered us to go for THD profile test. She visited a general physician and he prescribed Neo-mercazole 5 thrice a day.

Please look at the report and give your feedback. Can hyper thyroid this time be cured permanently?

Brief Answer:
Depends on the cause...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the details and yes the report indicates hyerthyroidism. And if the cause is viral thyroiditis, this issue will settle down. However there are few other condition which will need long term treatment. In my opinion you should visit and endocrinologist for further evaluation. You need more tests such as ultrasound scan of thyroid, radio iodine uptake, Anti TPO / anti Tg antibody and so on. Further management will be based on the results of tests.

Hope this helps.
