What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

Question: My husband has been diagnosed with Pseudomonas in the urinary tract. Test shows >100,000 cfu/mL Pseudomonas aeruginosa. How do I read the test report? What type of drugs can be used to cure this infection? Can the infection continue to decrease on its own without the use of something like an antibiotic? Is there anything by the way of natural (such as food, etc) which can help to cure the infections - besides drink lots of water and fluids?

Based on the fact that your husband has UTI the causative orgaisms being detected to be Pseudomonas Auruginosa.

If you go through the culture report in details the antibiotics to which these organisms are sensitive to is mentioned in details so as to guide us to choose antibiotic based on route of administration ,side effects , cost of the drug and most important being the most minimum concentration of the particular drug required to kill the bacteria.

The bacterial infection never gets cured itself without taking appropriate antibiotic nor any particular food can eradicate infection .

What does the test mean? >100,000 cfu/mL Pseudomonas aeruginosa - does this mean the bacteria is less than 100,000 cfu/mL? If so, does this mean the infection is not too bad. In other words if it were greater than (<) 100,000 it would be worse. I do not know if there is a rule of thumb the medical profession uses regarding an infection. Such as, if >100,000 cfu/mL would mean not too bad for example.

1) CFU/ml stands for Colony Forming Units per ml.a positive urine culture as indicated by the growth of bacteria greater than 100,000 CFUs/mL is suggestive of UTI; This indicates number of bacteria and value above 100000 indicates presence of infection .If the value is less than 100000 the infection is not severe .Severity of infection is determined in conjunction with severity of symptoms like high grade fever,dysuria etc.
