What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Feb 2017
Question: Hi. In applying for visa to NZ, my lab results came back with hep C number of 3.6 s/co. I keep looking online for info and all I can find is ratio numbers like 100,000 +.
What does 3.6 translate into? I can find the charts that day 75,000 and below is very low, i just don't know how to convert.
I am very nervous that this will keep me from visiting my dearest friend over the sea.

Brief Answer:
Can you upload this report for review?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Laboratory techniques differ. It will be nice to have a comprehensive report s issued by the lab for review and interpretation. I will need to look at the specific method used and any laboratory specific notes used. Besides, have you ever been diagnosed as being hepatitis C positive?

Thank you for your response. I will upload my lab results to you. I put it in Word, as to not send all of my personal info with it...but that seems to not upload. So please just ignore all of the blah blah that you don't need. HAHA. I was trying to clean it up for you.
Thanking you in advance for the help.
I, about 10 years ago had a hep c test. It came back positive but very low. My doc did a second testing and it came back negative, so there must have been a mistaking of the first test.
Now this.
I think what I am trying to understand the most is what the 3.6 means on the scale that has numbers in the hundred thousands. I cannot seem to find if 3.6 is a scary number. I have read that something over 8.0 is active and 11.0 is viral. I know the range for test is 0.0 - 0.9, so in that respect the 3.6 seems high, but
with what I am reading, it indicates more lower.
I know I will be having a second test, I am just anxious right at this minute...
Do you think that this is bad enough to keep me from visiting a different country???
Thanks again...upload to follow

Brief Answer:
Having hepatitis C doesn't preclude traveling!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the attached report fully. Your results suggest that you have hepatitis C infection. However, having hepatitis C cannot be a reason to prevent you from traveling. You need to be evaluated and treated accordingly. If the Viral load is very high or the liver is affected, you will need to be treated. The good news is that we have very good medications that are very effective in as little as 8weeks now with success rates of greater than 95%.

I wish you well.
