Question: Hi,
My husband is 40 year old. Weighs 86kg and height 5.9feet. His BP is always above 135/85. Sometimes its 140/90 sometimes its 138/87. we have done blood tests and his lipids are ok. Cholestrol is bit high on 190 level. Vitamin D is 13, Thyroid, LFT. KFT is normal. Haemoglobin is 12 which is also on the lower side. Iam very concerned about his BP as his family has genetically high BP issue. Can you please let me know some small dose of medicine which can be initiated for him. He is very much diet conscious and takes care of everything else.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Target blood pressure is less then 140/90 mm of hg.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

After a age of 40,target normal blood in a non diabetic patient with normal renal functions is less then 140/90mm of hg. As the age increases arteries become stiff hence fails to relax normally,Therefore the mean blood pressure raises and its natural. If B.P is less then 140/90mm of hg he does not need any medication.
Initially strict life style modification should be tried for 3 month,However if blood pressure is more then 140/90mm of hg in three recording taken for 3 consecutive days,Tab amlodipine 2.5mg can be started along with life style modification changes.

Thanks!
