What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?
Question: I think I may be having some issues with kidneys and am looking for some advice. I had some blood tests done and my creatinine levels were elevated but my bun levels are normal. my creatinine levels usually sit between .9 and 1.1 and have always been normal. I am very worried of having chronic kidney disease. from my research I found that high creatinine and normal bun can be related to muscle breakdown or myopathy. I am taking crestor but my doctor dismissed it as cause. I have attached a copy of my labs. I also had a bag of beef jerky a few hours prior to the test. could that have spuriously raised the the results?

Hi,
Your report of serum creatinine 1.0 or 1.1 mg/dl is within normal range generally creatinine levels below 1.2 are ok.
The attachment of reports does not have a creatinine report but it does have GFR estimation of 85 to 90 which again shows good kidney function.
To suspect kidney disease you should have some predisposing conditions like- diabettes, hypertension, use of pain killers, swelling of legs or any other physical symptoms.
if you doth have these you are less likely to have kidney disease.
Also you need to do an ultrasound KUB for the kidneys and urine routine and urine spot protein creatinine ratio to rule out any underlying kidney disease.
If all of these are also normal rest assured you do not have any kidney disease.

sorry about that. how about now. what's odd is that a month ago my creatinine was .97.

how about now? creatinine level is at 1.29. last month it was .97
