Question: Hello :) I'm a 43 yr old female, recently my BP has been as high as 215/120. This morning it was 145/125. I was recently put on Lisinopril and given a variety of lab tests. I have a history of asthma but my CXR xray was good and my Oxy level was 98%. I've been to the lab 6 times in the last 3 weeks. Could you please give me your opinion on my results? Thank you! Brief Answer: Raised wbc, cortisol and protein in urine Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Ms Let's analyse your laboratory reports. Normally proteins are present only in traces in urine and are not detectable by the commonly applied test. There is presence of 1 + proteins in the urine. The most commonest cause for such proteins to be present in the urine in your age is Urinary tract infection. As you can see in your previous laboratory report the WBC are slightly on higher side (12.3). This is commonly due to infection anywhere in the body, in view of presence of protein in Urine it's likely to be due to Urinary tract infection. Infection is a state of stress and in stress steroid hormone like cortisol are elevated which also explains the Cortisol level slightly on higher side. I would suggest you to consult your Physician and discuss this and also get the following investigation 1. Urine Microscopy examination 2. Ultrasound of Kidney, ureter and bladder 3. Fasting and post prandial blood sugar estimation. It's also important to rule out Diabetes Mellitus as the cause. Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take care Best Regards Dr T Shobha Deepak MBBS, MD
