She was diagnosed with a 33 degree scoliosis from the t1 to the t6 with a mild rotary component-- what does this mean--bracing--surgery--- we have an apt with a ortho in 3 weeks but my daughter is freaking out she is a competitive athlete--can she still train until we see the doc?

Brief Answer:
The vertebral column seems to have an S shape

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Our vertebral column has a normal curvature that you would observe when looking from the side but looking from the front the vertebral column should look straight. If the vertebrae are slightly rotated and the column looks twisted and bent (S shape) when looking front front, it is called scoliosis. That is what your daughter has. If that is the case, bracing should help in dealing with the problem. Following the intervention she is unlikely to have any problems in training further.

is 33 degree bend on a 14 year old almost 15 year old respond to bracing or is that a candidate for surgery?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is a better option.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Hard to comment without being able to consider all the details together. Usually bracing is tried first. But since the degree of bend is high, surgery is definitely a better option.
