What Does My Liver Test Report Indicate?
Question: My 17 year old son has swollen lymph nodes on right neck for six months with one now greater than 3cm. His doctor ran labs cbc and cmp were normal. ALT was 86 AST 176. What could be causing both? We have a significant family history for Celiacs disease with my childs maternal grandparents and uncle all being biopsy positive for Celiacs disease.
Brief Answer:
Lymphadenopathy is most likely due to simple reasons.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
As we discussed earlier, enlarged lymph nodes in neck may be due to many reasons. As your son doesn't have any symptoms,it may be due to scalp infection etc which need evaluation.
FNAC is most vital and it can assess true nature of lymph nodes.
Increased ALT also need proper evaluation.Viral markers and ultrasound of abdomen is important.FNAC/Biopsy of liver can be done if needed.
It is also important to screen for coeliac disease. It is also one of the reason for altered liver functions.
Treatment depend upon findings.
