What Does My Sympathetic Skin Response Test Report Indicate?
Question: Systematic Skin Respomse test for small fibre neuropathy.
Hello I am recently trying to get the diagnosis of my paresthesia problem and my Doctor suspected small fibre neuropathy. She ordered for sympathetic skin response test and found out it is normal.
My question is how reliable is this test in detecting SFN,
Also, I can't differentiate whether I feel
Numbness
Tingling or
Electric current sensation.
Can I get help?

Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
SSR is not very sensitive testing for evaluation of small fiber neuropathy.
Even mild involvement can be missed.
If there is any symptom, then drugs like Pregabalin, Gabapentin or amitriptyline should be tried.
Other available tests for evaluation are expensive. You can get quantitative sensory testing, Quantitative sudomotor axon reflex testing and skin biopsy can be done.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
