Question: Hi , My daughter is eight and half years. She is suffering from abdomen pain for last three months. All reports like Barium X ray, CT Scan, Ultrasound ( Except lymp Nodes) , Serology, Blood, Urine are normal. Deworming is done. She has high thyroid values as below:
1st April 2016, TSH = 38.7
21st April 2016 TSH =44.0, Started Eltroxin 75mg daily and now on
24th May 2016, TSH = 0.539. Reduced to 50 mg from 25th May.

Please suggest, should we continue giving Eltroxin or Stop it?
Is current treatment is correct and efficient?
Please advise, how long it may take to cure abdomen pain completely?

Brief Answer:
Eltroxin needs to be continued

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.

I have gone through the query.
You should definitely continue giving her Eltroxin 50 mcg daily. Recheck the thyroid profile after 3 months. The dose may thereafter be reduced to 25 mcg if the reports suggest. The treatment is effective.

About the abdominal pain, you need to wait and watch. A step by step approach needs to be taken based on the response.

Dear Sir,

Appreciate your detailed and quick reply. Since, she is female child of just eight and half years now and many harmonal will come in future. Also, keeping on medication / Eltroxin for long time may be harmful and may have some side effects. we are worried on that point.

If TSH levels are normal, why we need to give eltroxin now. At what point we can completly stop this medicine.
Please advise.

Brief Answer:
It is very important to continue the medicine.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I do not think that giving Eltroxin would be harmful. Rather, not giving Eltroxin can be far more harmful than you can anticipate. The deficiency of thyroid hormones can mess up with a large number of things.

The thyroid levels are normal only on medication. Once you withdraw the support, the situation would be back to what it was earlier. You should not stop the medicine like this.
