What Does My Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Oct 2015
Question: diagnosed w/hypothyroidism almost 2 months ago - taking synthroid, just recvd thyroid ultrasound results, my P.A. on vacation would like explanation of ultrasound findings:
1) thyroid not enlarged- right lobe measures 4.5x1.6x1.3 cm; the isthmus measures 0.2 cm in thickness. Left lobe 4.1x1.5.1.1 cm
2) parenchyma is diffusely heterogenous
3) several nodules identified
4) largest right-sided nodule is well defined, hypoechoic and likely cystic, measures 0.6x0.5x0.6 cm
5) largest left-sided nodule well defined, hyperechoic, measures 0.4x0.4x0.4 cm
Impression:
1) Heterogeneous gland with small nodules
2) ultrasound follow-up in 6-12 months suggested
Questions:
1) other than follow-up ultrasound in 6-12 months, what does above mean?
2) how can I have hypo and hyper nodules, what does that indicate? do i have both hypo and hyperthyroidism? What do I do with that?
3) other than synthroid, I read online that glutathione is deficient in hypothyroidism, and a supplement with glutathione, PQQ, CoQ10, and NAC called "VitaPulse" can assist in muscle health, heart/brain function, energy level, memory, brain fog, indigestion, and fatigue, although I have no heart problems or concerns, I carry all the remaining symptoms with little relief since I've been on synthroid. Could this supplement be helpful? could an increase of synthroid dosage be called for? I'm taking 0.05mg synthroid (50MCG) once a day
4) as to the ultrasound results, will a biopsy/aspiration be called for?
5) I'm so constipated I can feel the need to eliminate and cant, my PA suggested I use Magnesium Citrate, for relief, but can I get dependent on that?
I may not get an appt with my PA for another 2-3 wks, and I'd like to know something as soon as possible. I guess that's it for now - thank you for your professional advise! Sherri Tyrrell #HCM145896

Brief Answer:
Nodules in hypothyroidism are not unexpected!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

Nodules with hypothyroidism are not strange. They are expected because of execs stimulation by the hormone that stimulates it to produce enough thyroid glands. I will say it not an unexpected ultrasound and a follow up is all that is required at this time. You have hypothyroidism and your findings are in line with that.

With falling hair and constipation, you need to have your dosage of synthroid increased. Hair falling will stop and get reversed with appropriate treatment. Let your PA monitor you TSH levels regularly and check your symptoms as well so as to adjust the dosage of drugs accordingly. Tell your PA this directly about your dosage. For how long have you been on treatment? There is no need for biopsy at this time.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
