What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Question: HI, I'm currently in a flare! Unfortunately, I am having new symptoms & my MD did get an ultra sound of my ABD. However, my gallbladder seems to be affected? Need to get a HIDA test because they found thickness no stones in my gallbladder. This flare is painful & long! Not on any medication other than ibuprofen. During my flares in the past I would get prednisone for 10 days to 30 days. Worried now because I feel I've had my share of prednisone! I was diagnosed 14 years ago when pregnant with my daughter. What can I do to get out of this flare without prednisone?

Brief Answer:
What is your diagnoses and the current symptoms except pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your question.
I read it carefully.
In your description I need also to know what is your diagnoses, so what are you flaring up with (any infection in your body can have flare ups so it is impossible for me to guess that).

Also, what are the symptoms you are having?
The treatment is recommended depending on the severity.
I suppose your doctors haven't recommend the usual treatment either because your symptoms are not that severe, or because they need to rule something out before they start the usual treatment. Steroids can mask the problems and give a healed feeling while the main problem can still be there present and need diagnostication and specific treatment.

Please kindly let me know as much information as possible and I will be happy to help with more advices.
Meanwhile I hope my answer will help to reassure you a bit.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

Regards,

So sorry, thought I wrote my diagnosis. I was diagnosed 14 yrs ago with Lupus. My levels have been manageable with steroids & ibuprofen. Rash is taking much longer to clear, pain was managed off & on with ibuprofen & Tramadol at times. This flare is lasting much longer with the fatigue, ABD pain, Rash on hands, & inflamed joints. I thought I was having a adverse reaction to fenofibrate I took for 20days. Cholesterol 290!

Brief Answer:
Steroids mask the symptoms of a problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question and the additional information.

I believe that your doctors have withdrawn you from steroids just because they want to confirm first what is going on with your gallbladder. As I said, steroids may mask the symptoms.

Steroids should still be effective if they have worked before. And even if they won't work at some point, they are other options you can use to keep your lupus under control.

I hope this reassures you a bit.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Regards,
Dr.Papaqako
