What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 May 2017
Question: . There is a difference of 2 weeks in gestational age between 2 ultrasounds. I had an ultrasound 7 weeks before then GA was 30 weeks and today i.e. 7 weeks after the ultrasound it should be 37 weeks but it's 35 weeks. So is it normal or my baby is growing at a slow rate or GA by ultrasound is just an approximation. Please help me out with this as this is making me nervous.

Brief Answer:
Can be fetal growth retardation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A discrepancy of more than 2 weeks in ultrasounds more than 5 weeks apart is suggestive of a fetal growth retardation. The growth of baby can be decreased due to high blood pressure decreased liquor or decreased placental circulation.
In my opinion get a Doppler ultrasound done and see for the values and it will give you exact nature of blood supply to the baby.
Till then -
- always lie down in lateral position more on left side and never in supine position.
- drink a lot of water
- regular weekly check up of weight and blood pressure
- less intake of salt
- increase your protein intake - eggs, cottage cheese, sprouts and non vegetarian food are rich in protein.
Don't worry in today's world anything can be managed in good tertiary care hospitals.
Keeping fingers crossed and wish you all the best.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
