What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi there, i am a 29 year old female slender build. I noticed a palpable node in the right side of my neck. Dr looked and it and said if id like to have reassurance we could do an ultrasound and CBC done, so i did . CBC came back normal. Unltra sound came back normal they told me. But when i recived my reaults and looking at the size of the node at 3cm worries me!? Should i be worried is this normal. (I did have a cold 2 weeks ago) i have attached my ultrasound readings. No other symptoms.
Side note because i am a worry wort i already had a CT scan of my pelvis/ambdomen and chest came back normal. Had a chest xray done as well earlier this month came back normal as well. (Had it all done in the last 3 weeks)

Brief Answer:
There are no obvious features of malignancy in the ultrasound findings
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.
The size of the lymph node is 3 cm and it is a bit larger but the fatty hilum is maintained and this is a feature which is usually found in benign enlargement of lymph nodes. A recent cold might support a benign lymph node enlargement.
There are criteria for lymph nodes on ultrasound scan and if there is hyperechoic hilum which is a fatty hilum then it is likely to be benign.
Features found in malignant lymph nodes include loss of fatty hilum, peripheral vascularisation, cystic nature and hyperechoic punctuations and you do not have these findings.
