What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Question: I have had swelling in my leg for over a week and a half now. It is in my left leg only. I have been to the ER and had an ultrasound and there is no blood clot. There was no sign of infection in my blood work. The ER doctor gave me an antibiotic and sent me home. diagnosing me with cellulitis. The next two days had fever, chills and upset stomach. After that, those symptoms have mostly subsided. (I tend to have a mild fever every morning and that has continued.) I went to my primary care phys and she feels it is my back and wants to do an MRI. I do have an in issue in my lower back confirmed by an MRI several years ago. However, while my leg has remained swollen, my back has not hurt this entire time. The swelling is in my mid thigh down through my ankle and now I am having difficulty using that leg. I can't put pressure on my heel and the ankle. Should I go back to my primary care provider or seek another opinion. I am very frustrated and tired of the pain that comes from the swelling and decreased mobility.

Brief Answer:
it makes sense that it is coming from the back

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
This does sound very frustrating.
There are really two issues here. One has to do with infection. It sounds like the cellulitis was treated appropriately, but the daily fevers is concerning.
The next issue has to do with the problems you are having using the leg.
Trouble using the leg and not being able to put pressure on the heel and ankle sounds like a nerve issue. The nerves for the whole leg originate in the lower spine. It makes sense to have the MRI. If that does not show the problem then the next step would be to see a neurologist for evaluation for nerve and muscle conduction problems.
For the recurrent fevers, I suggest that you see an infectious disease specialist for a thorough evaluation.
I hope you get some clear answers soon.
