Question: Hello doctor, yesterday at my ultrasound the baby's femur measured 6 days behind and is in the 17th percentile, everything else measured between the 20th and 60th percentile. I had a nuchal fold test at 12 weeks and a blood test and everything came back normal with a risk of 1:2800 for downs syndrome. The measurements are the following:
AC 103
BPD 32
HC 119
FL 17
Fetal weight 131g
Is everything ok or should I be worried because of the femur length? Thank you very much.
Brief Answer:
There is no reason to worry

Dear Ms
There is absolutely no cause for worry.
Everything seems alright in place.
If the previous menstrual cycles were normal and one knows the exact Last Menstrual period(LMP), thats the most sensitive way of calculating gestational age.
Its even more specific than Calculation by Ultrasound.
Calculation of gestational age by Fetal Ultrasound depends on multiple factors including AC,BPD,FL,HC. So there may be a discrepancy of plus or minus 2 weeks on either side. As the difference is only of 6 days there is absolutely no reason for worrying. Anything more than 5th percentile is acceptable.
Wishing you a very happy motherhood.
