What Does My Urine Analysis Test Report Indicate?
Question: Hello, Doctor.
I had taken Hepatitis B vaccine about 6 months back. I week after the vaccine, I experienced high fever and my urine became foamy. It remains foamy till today. I had two spot urine tests. Both were negative. I also took a 24 hour urine test from SRL lab. Results are:
Protien, urine : 6.8 range <11.9/dl
method: spectrometry
24 hour urine: 156, range <150
volume 24 hour urine = 2300 ml.
I have no edema or weight loss. I did another 24 hour urine test and it is 141 (Normal but on the higher side)
Serum creatinine and BUN are also normal. ALT, AST and Bilrubin are normal as well.
Cholesterol is mildly elevated.

I want to start working out. My urine still continues to be quite frothy irrespective of whether I pee directly in the toilet bowl or sideways. And I am quite sure this did not happen before I took the Hepatitis B vaccine.
To be honest I am still a bit worried.
Can I take extra protein in my diet as a supplement.

Brief Answer:
You can start working out
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Your kidneys are in perfect condition. Please go ahead and start working out, you can also take protein supplements. I donot recommend very high protein intake, please limit it to not more than 1.2-1.5mg/kg/day.
Do not worry about the frothy urine, your urine routine and urine protein excretion is within normal limits. There is no abnormality at all in the urine
I see that your hemoglobin is slightly on the higher side, are you a smoker? If you are then please stop smoking.
I hope I was answered to your query, if you have any further doubts please get back to me
Regards

Hi doctor,
No I am not a smoker. But I had hepatitis c earlier and I had taken peg interferon ribavarin treatment that ended in XXXXXXX last year. My hep c is functionally cured. I did know if this has any relationship with increased haemoglobin.my haemoglobin has remained above 15 in multiple blood tests
Also, I have read that vaccine can cause minimal change disease. I am afraid if that's the case with me.

Brief Answer:
Not minimal change disease
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
It is definitely not minimal change disease. MCD is a nephrotic syndrome where one will have urine protein excretion of above 3 g/day. You do not have any protein loss.
I recommend you to meet a Hematologist for polycythemia ( increased hemoglobin). Increased hemoglobin is known to cause strokes, heart attacks, etc.

Hi Doctor XXXXXXX
Do you think I need a microalbuminurea test, to be doubly sure?

Brief Answer:
Not required
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I dont recommend hypoalbuminuria test as it will be positive in most patients who exercise. However you can repeat the renal function test and urine routine once every 6 months if you want to be sure.
