Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, my urinalysis showed trace protein, hyaline casts 1-3, moderate mucous threads, squamous epithelial cells 10-20 and specific gravity 1.036. My GP said the results are nothing to worry about, but I'm concerned.I have an appointment with a urologist, but that's in a month.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to chronic Cystitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your urine analysis has revealed trace of protein ,hylin cast and 10-20 squamous epithelial cells which suggests chronic irritation of bladder.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem
1) Do you have urinary symptoms like frequency.burning ,urgency etc ?

The presence of squamous cells suggests natural defense mechanism of the mucous membrane of the bladder to chronic irritation due to inflammation or infection where normal transitional epithelium lining of the bladder gets transformed in squamous epithelium cells which are shade off in urine .

Since report does not reveal any puss cells or RBC there is nothing to be worried about.

Take prophylactic antibiotics like Nitrofurantoin for 2-3 weeks .

Ensure to drink more water,

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you kindly for your response. Ioccasionally experience urgency and slight burning. Are the mucous threads of any concern? And you are correct, no RBCs. All values (other than what we discussed) are within normal limits.

Brief Answer:
Nothing significant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Mucous threads are shedding of squamated epithelial lining and is a normal process and nothing to be worried about it.

Slight burning and urgency are due to irritation of ladder and if cumbersome can be be cured by taking Darifenacin once daily.

Ensure to drink more water .
Thanks and Regards.
