What Does My Urine Test Report Indicate?
Isolated pus cells is not confirmatory of urinary infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for asking to healthcaremagic
Presence of pus cells >5 per HPF is considered to be significant and is suggestive(not confirmatory) of urinary tract infection.1-2 epithelial cells per HPF is a normal finding.
Isolated presence of pus cells up to 10 per HPF in the absence of symptoms is not sufficient to say whether there is urinary infection or not.
I would like to know if there is any history of fever,dribbling/retention of urine,burning/painful micturition or crying during micturition.
In the presence of these symptoms, this report may be significant. In this condition I would like to start empirical antibiotic treatment(like cefixime as it has good coverage for the organism causing UTI) after sending the sample for culture sensitivity.
The antibiotic may need to be modified according to the report.
In case of urinary tract infection he will also need to get an USG KUB and few other investigations done.
In the absence of suggestive history isolated pyuria needs not to be treated. Here I would like to get a repeat urine test done after few days to see whether pyuria persists or not.
Please provide me detail history so that I better able to help you out.
