What Does Pain Between The Waist And Midback After An Injury Indicate?

Question: I fell backwards on ice 2 weeks ago and slammed my left side against a partially submerged planter in the snow right on the edge. Had xrays and ct scans said no fracture, but the pain is more between my waist and midback. No one ever actually examined that area and when photos were taken I was lying on my back. Is there something besides a rib there that could be injured? I Feel a slippage and bones shifting when I try to lie on my left side. Can there be an undetected fracture? There is a constant dull ache when sitting or lying on my back.
Brief Answer:
contusion is a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Since the X-rays and CT scan is negative for fractures, this is not due to fractures. Ribs too are nicely seen in the Scan.
You can request films to be reviewed.
The position being between waist and mid-back, the most probable reason as per your history of constant dull ache and findings can be a contusion of the muscles.
Another investigation of High Resolution Ultrasonography of the painful area and abdomen can shed more light on the probable diagnosis.
The pain-spasm -pain cycle has to be broken to get the proper relief. Anti-inflammatory Medicines along with effective pain-killer and a strict bed rest should give you relief.
