What Does Persistent Pain After Molar Extraction Suggest?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I had a molar removed from my lower right jaw last October. I have had constant sharp pain since that time. 2 dentists have looked at the area and say there are no more dental related problems. I had a X-ray and there were no fractures. I did try physio and it did help relieve the headaches. I am taking diclofenac tid and cyclone zapping at hs I should add the extraction was very difficult, even the dentist told me it was one two of the most difficult extractions last year. I am also eating soft food only. The diclofenac is not working as well lately and I am starting to get headaches again. Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem. Oh and I have a XXXXXXX booked in July.

Brief Answer:
Seems like nerve related pain..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain as you had a difficult extraction and also there is continuous pain without any left over dental problems and also no fracture then the most probable cause seems in this case to be nerve related pain as the branch of inferior dental nerve lies in close location with lower molar teeth and at times can get traumatized during extraction.
So consult either an Oral Surgeon or a Neurophysician and get evaluated and an MRI SCAN can be diagnostic and you will be treated with neurotic painkillers like Gabapentin, Carbamazepine etc..
As of now if pain is severe you can take higher painkillers like Ketorolac or TRAMADOL..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards..
