What Does Persistent Vaginal Spotting Even After Mononessa Intake Indicate?

Question: I am 43 and have had irregular, heavy, long-term bleeding for almost 3 months now. Three weeks ago I started the Mononessa birth control pill per my OBGYN, in hopes of regulating my cycle. I stopped bleeding completely for about 5 days, but then started to spot and light bleed again. I have been bleeding since then for about two weeks (it's light but I do need a tampon), but per instructions I have continued to take my pill at the same every day consistently. My question is this: I am one day away from taking my inactive green pills (which last for 7 days) and I am still bleeding--should I skip the inactive pills and just start a new pack in hopes that the bleeding will stop? Or should I take the inactive pills and just keep going?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, you are on right treatment and keep taking the inactive pills and start a new pack thereafter.
After completion of inactive pills you will get your periods in full flow which can be heavy.
Don't feel bothered and start the new pack on day 1 of periods.
This will eventually cause normalization of the endometrial health and regularize your cycles.
In case you get heavy bleeding with clots after stopping the active pills take tablet tranexemic acid 500 mg thrice a day for 5 days.
Take care.

Thank you. I'm confused on a couple of things you said...
You said "after completion of inactive pills you will get your periods..." Do you mean after completion of ACTIVE pills?
You also said "Start a new pack on day 1 of periods"...This is after inactive pills are done regardless of bleeding, correct? I have no way of telling when "day 1 of period" is because I bleed all the time.
You are basically saying continue with packs as prescribed regardless of bleeding, correct?
Is tranexemic acid over-the-counter? What does it do?

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I'm sorry for writing inactive pills as I meant to say after completion of active pills you will get your periods.
Start a new pack after completion of inactive pills and by that time you will definitely get your periods.
Though very less chance but in case you still don't get proper flow despite of completion of inactive pills you still should start a fresh pack of pills.
You will get to know about the first day of periods because the flow will be proper due to organized maturation of endometrium after pill intake.
Tranexemic acid helps in decreasing blood loss by helping in clotting at the site of bleeding.
It is easily available and is a simple drug.
All the best.
