What Does Presence Of Glucose In Urine Of A 6 Year Old Child Indicate?
Question: Hello,
Today my 6 year old son had a urine test and it showed he had glucose in his urine. His pediatrician ordered more tests, but im wondering what could cause this. Aside from about 14 ounces of low fat milk, and a turkey and cheese sandwhich he hadnt had anything else with sugar in it.
My son is adopted and was born drug and alcohol exposed- because of this he does have hypertension and is on 3 different blood pressure medications. He also has Autism, mild cerebral pasley, hypoplasia of the corpus callosum, and is probe to digestive issues.

The blood sugar should be checked:
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
First let me congratulate you for this human gest.
The presence of glucose in urine is suggestive for Diabetes.
The doctor should have checked the blood sugar to confirm it.
When the blod sugar is over 180 mg/ dl in blood, the kidneys try to eleminate it and the sugar is present in urine. In a normal individual the blood sugar does not exceed 180 mg/ dl whatever he eats.
What may cause Diabetes to him is hardly to say.
First must be confirmed if it is type 1 or 2 and than may be judged further about the cause.
Wish him good health!
Do not hesitate to ask if you have further queries.
Kind Regards,
