Brief Answer:
Problem probably due to oral allergy to food/drug
Detailed Answer:
Hi friend,
Thanks for your query.
1. RAISED
aPTT :- A raised aPTT is an indicator of a delayed clot formation. The normal range of the test is 20-40 seconds. Hence, a value of 40.8 seconds, is negligibly higher than the upper limit of normal range. Please intimate if your wife has ever had prolonged bleeding following a cut/wound. If not, I would recommend that the test should be repeated at a different Laboratory.
2. THROAT SWELLING :- The commonest cause of a transient throat swelling following ingestion of food, is a mild food intolerance/allergy. You have not mentioned if there are other symptoms associated with throat swelling; or, recurrent symptoms of
common cold,
hives, itching etc.
Nevertheless, she has probably developed
Oral Allergy Syndrome, a condition in which symptoms are immediate upon ingestion of fresh or uncooked foods and include the itching, irritation, and mild swelling of the lips, tongue,
palate, and throat. The symptoms usually go away within minutes. Usually, cooked foods do not cause such reactions.
Of the drugs,
Nevanac eye drops, can cause local allergy in the throat when it flows down from the eye through lacrimal tube and come into contact with the throat. Allergy to other drugs is unlikely.
Additional information- such as, dietary contents, linkage of symptoms to a particular food like fruits, nuts, fish, eggs, shellfish etc.- in greater detail would be extremely helpful for me to pinpoint the likeliest cause of transient throat swelling.
Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
In any case, I would be keenly awaiting additional input from you.
Take care
