What Does Red Rash Behind Knees Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: My daughter is 7 and 3 days ago we noticed a red welt behind her knee. She has been itching it and it has grown to about 2 inches above and below the bend of the knee. It looks like a raised rash, not spotty. I have tried different itch creams and ointments but she complains thst they burn. The only thing that seems to soothe the discomfort is Silver Sulfadiazine 1% cream. We are going to bring her to her doctor on Monday but until then what is the best cause of action?
Also, she threw up once on Thursday morning and wzs not feeling well that dsy or Friday. She did not have a fever. Do you think these are related?

Brief Answer:
Urticaria or eczema

Detailed Answer:
Hi...this looks like urticaria or eczema. I suggest you use soothing creams like oilatum or even silver sulfadiazine if its soothing her.

Apart from this give oral antiallergics which are licensed in your country as over the counter drugs till tomorrow.

I suggest giving Hydroxyzine or Atarax at 1mg/kg/day.

Get back to me with her weight and I will guide further.
