Brief Answer:
Needs investigations. Ensure no UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You have not mentioned why your mother-in-law needed a scan but it looks like she might be having a bladder infection.
So please check if she has any recent features of
urinary tract infection. You can do this by getting a complete urine examination, a urine culture if there are plenty of pus cells, and a
serum creatinine for assessment of renal function. A complete blood picture also might help to tell us severity of infection.
The fact that she is a diabetic should make us watchful regarding the status of left
kidney which apparently is 'overfilled' meaning there is increased fluid in the kidney most probably under high pressure. There are instances of what we call 'papillary necrosis' which can cause a similar picture as a stone in the passage from kidney to the
urinary bladder, which can be ascertained by a X-ray KUB, and if necessary, later a
CT scan of KUB i.e Kidneys and urinary Bladder.
Thus you also should ensure she receives a good antibiotic as soon as a urine sample is given for culture, and you can change this once the urine culture report comes through.
Hope I have been of help.
