What Does Severe Pain In Right Lower Quadrant Post Partial Colectomy Indicate?

Question: Hi,
I had a partial colectomy almost 2 months ago for diverticulitis with approximately 1.5 feet removed from my left side part of my colon. It was an open surgery. My major side effect is that I now get severe pain on the right lower quadrant of my abdom when I get off my bed, but goes away after I start walking. Any thoughts of what this could be - the stretching of the resectioned colon?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Stretching colon is not the case.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thank you for the query.
Stretching colon is not the reason for sure.
With such pain, most probable reason is a healing of the soft tissues including skin, muscles and tendons.
After such surgery there is always a moderate risk of hernia. Even if there is no protrusion visible.
I suggest you to wait one more month as the healing process takes about 3 months. If after that time, you wont see any improvement, you should consult your surgeon. Abdominal ultrasound (or better a CT) should be done at first.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
