Brief Answer:
Could be sost tissue injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
With fall there can be injury to soft tissues also and not only fracture ribs. Moreover some parts of the ribs are not visible on x rays , so it more of clinical judgement.
To all my patients whether fracture or soft tissue injury, I give pain killers , sometimes muscle relaxants and suggest deep breathing exercises. The exercises are must even they may initially cause increase in pain.
Hope for all the best. Please feel free to ask any other question.
