Question: Hi! My husband has just been diagnosed with cancer. He has 2 cyst located in one kidney and they call it a bosniak lv. Then he also has lymphoma and it is in the bone marrow. They did a CT scan, then they drained the kidney and drained off 560cc. He has had an itching of his hand and run a low grade fever for sometime. They did a MRI on the 20th and do not know the results yet and some more indepth blood test, also. Has it matastisized into the bone marrow? They say it is two different kinds of cancer and they will 90% sure they will take out the kidney. At the time they drained his cyst, they also did a biopsy on a node in the groin area. They have not explained the stages and what all is involved. The CT scan showed questionable of the bone area in back and spot on spleen and his lungs are questionable also? What are some intelligent questions should I ask when we go back to the Dr. on the 9th. We are going to UTSW in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX We live outside of Paris, XXXXXXX and feel so much better being in XXXXXXX It is non- hodgkins lymphoma and growing slow and a b-cell. Do you mind explaining to me what is going on and also what intelligent questions should I ask? Thank You, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
NHL has good cure rates

Detailed Answer:
Good to hear that it is NHL; slow growing which means it is low grade tumor. This tumor grow slowly and has a tendency to spread to other organs and bone marrow also. If such spread is seen it means it is in stage 4.

Treatment depends on subtype , IHC. Slow growing tumor respond to slowing and have long natural course with remissions and relapses. Treatment course is also smooth and adverse effects occur all are manageable. Therefore without known the type and subtype, I hardly have any questions that you can discuss with your doctor. I would only suggest you to discuss about the type and extent of tumour during the follow up.

Ultimate outcome depends not only on stage but certain other lab parameters. You may perhaps discuss about those too.

Nothing to worry and be positive about outcome.

Take care
