What Does Strong Odour In Urine Of An Elderly Person Suggest?
Question: I am female, 80 years old, reasonably healthy for my age. For the past year my urine has had a strong smell. Usually "fish", but sometimes like an "outhouse". I take several prescribed meds, plus over the counter vitamins etc. Could one of the meds suddenly cause this or maybe a food? I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.

I should have mentioned that this problem began when I started taking Simivastin daily. It that possibly the cause?
Brief Answer:
Quite unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I don't think that it's the cause of the symptoms.
It's not usually known.
There's only 1 way to test your problem.
To reduce the dose of medicines and see.
This will however need you to meet the prescribing doctor.
I still feel that you should get the tests.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal

Will see my primary care physician in October for annual check up, discuss the issue and ask for urine culture. No fever or other UTI symptoms, so do not feel the need for earlier appointment. Agree?
Brief Answer:
best of luck
Detailed Answer:
Urine infection does not always come with fever or burning urine.
As for the appointment, you are the best judge how bothersome your symptoms are- you can decide accordingly.
best of luck
