What Does Swelling In The Wrist After Insect Bite Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Jun 2017
Question: I have been stung by a red wasp yesterday morning and it has swollen my whole hand and up my wrist. I was stung on top of my hand just above pinky finger. I put baking soda paste on it for the pain which worked great. But it started swelling and continues to do so. It is somewhat red and warm to the touch. What should I be doing to help this situation?

Brief Answer:
If you don' t see improvement I suggest to go to ED.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! I have been through your question.

Related your concern you should apply ice to the site to provide some mild relief, take an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine or loratadine that can help with itching and swelling as well wash the place with soap and water and put there hydrocortisone cream and antibiotic ointment (after prescription of a doctor).
If you don't see improvement of this situation and have more moderate allergic reaction such as a rash all over the body and some mild problems breathing, I suggest to go to the Emergency department to get injections of antihistamines and steroids.
Furthermore if you have more than 10 years since your last tetanus booster, get a booster within the next few days.

Please could you send me an attached picture for better evaluation.

I hope my answer helps you.
Feel free to ask me further.
Regards.
