What Does Tandem Walk Assess?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: I just saw my neurologist today for CSF leak headache, and she asked me to tandem walk and I was unable to do it without falling. Would that be a result of the low fluid in my spine, or would it have more to do with my CRPS/RSDS?

Brief Answer: It might be due to hypothyroidism Detailed Answer: You mentioned that you have hypothyroid also. The tandem walk assesses the balance and that is affected when cerebellum or the associated balance apparatus is affected. CRPS would not lead to any ataxia. But any compression over cerebellum or metabolic derangements like hypothyroidism may affect balance. Please check your thyroid profile.
