What Does The Beta HCG Report Indicate?
Question: Good morning Doctor,
This is XXXXXXX I am continuing from my previous query here since it doesn't allow me to post more questions in the same chain.
The second Beta HCG report came in last evening. It shows my HCG levels as 2541. Last report (from 48 hrs back) showed as 394
My doctor here looked astonished and she said she will give some benefit of doubt to the HUCOG 2000 injection that she prescribed.
Also she asked me to get an ultrasound done on Saturday. By then she expects the HCG to be 5000 and hence the sac should be visible.
She repeated again that we should wait and watch. I wanted to know for how long do doctors exhibit such caution and wait and watch approach?
Also does the steep rise in HCG indicate anything?
Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
wait and watch for at least 5 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
It is good to know the HCG level at 2541. Please do the scan on Saturday as suggested.
We need to wait and watch for at least 5 weeks, 6 weeks would be even better.
There is no steep rise in HCG. This increase is expected and it is a normal finding. Levels around 7000 is normally expected in and around 5 weeks. So, your level does not indicate anything serious. It is normal. Do not worry about it.
Let me know the scan report when it is done.
good day!

Brief Answer:
early pregnancy noted
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for uploading the scan report. I have gone through it.
It is showing signs of early pregnancy with a single gestational sac noted. The findings are suggestive of a pregnancy that is 5 weeks 2 days old. At this stage, the distinct embryo or the baby is not visible on scan.
Please wait patiently and repeat the scan after 10 days as suggested.
Congratulations on the pregnancy. I suggest you to take adequate rest, healthy diet, moderate exercise and remain stress free.
Take care!

Thanks Doctor, my LMP was 8th Feb & based on that the age should be 6 weeks 2 days. However the ultrasound doctor said it is normal and may be you conceived a bit later than expected.
Brief Answer:
yes, you conceived little late
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Hope you are doing fine. Yes, you conceived a little late and that is normal. Going by LMP you are 6 weeks 2 days pregnant, and going by scan report you are 5 weeks 2 days pregnant. At this stage, we would consider the scan report as normal. And yes, you conceived a little late. This is normal.
There is no need to worry about the same.
Eat well and take your medicines on time, especially folic acid.

Brief Answer:
avoid taking unnecessary medicines
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
In early pregnancy, the special precautions would be to not take any unnecessary medicines, in fact any medicine for that matter without informing your doctor. The first 3 months are crucial, this is where organogenesis or major organ formation occurs. So be careful to not take unnecessary medicines.
Secondly, Folic acid helps in neural tube formation or the future brain formation. So, take folic acid without fail daily.
Other than this, there is no special precautions as such in first 3 months. Just be yourself, eat healthy and take adequate rest.
Regarding lying down position in pregnancy, try to lie down on your left side and get up from that side of the bed. Do not get up from bed upright. This is more so in later months of pregnancy.
Individual doctors practice medicine in individual ways. What I have suggested you is purely my opinion.
I am here to guide you anytime. Let me know about your doubts. I would be glad to help you.

Hi Doctor,
I know some of these questions may be coming little early but I cannot help asking:
1. How do I decide on a doctor, I have a few friends recommendations but what is it that I should look for with my doctor. So far the meetings with this gynecalogist have been okay but I am not sure if I should continue with her or look for someone else
2. I was reading some pregnancy books and I think I would want to join those prenatal classes. When is the right time to enroll for such classes? I would also like my husband to be part of these classes with me. I feel I am scared of the pregnancy and childbirth related problems and such classes might help me prepare for delivery and also through the pregnancy
3. Can I join some yoga class throughout my pregnancy?
4. These days most doctors I see (in case of my friends) go for C-sec. They suggest it at the last minute and my friends have gone for it. Altough I am scared of pain, I would prefer normal delivery and would like to prepare my body for the same.

Brief Answer:
do all of these
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
1. A doctor must be patient-friendly in the first place. She must be able to listen to you at all times throughout your pregnancy. Old age experienced doctors are good at it. So, if you can find a doctor with one such reputation and who has a lot of patience in waiting through the process of normal delivery, it would be best for you. Also, you can build a rapport with your current gynecologist since you do not find any problem with her. Try talking as much as you can to the doctor during your visits so that the doctor understands you better.
2. Sure, you can join the prenatal classes. It would be beneficial to you. You can enroll for it anytime during pregnancy but ideal time would be around 20 weeks. You can ask your husband to be a part of it as well. Also, he can speak to the doctor during your antenatal visits. If he cannot enroll into the class, you can share the information that you receive at the class with him. There are written scripts that would be given to you and your husband for reference. You both can read them at your convenience.
3. Yes, definitely you can join yoga classes throughout your pregnancy. It is very beneficial to pregnant women.
4. The reasons for c-section would be different in different women. So, one cannot decide prior as to how the delivery would happen. I appreciate your thoughts about having a normal delivery.
Think positive and stay positive.
Regards,

Brief Answer:
high fiber diet and plenty of fluids orally
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I am sorry you are facing these issues now.
For the constipation, I suggest you to take 2 big plantains or banana daily. You must drink plenty of fluids orally. Take oats and other fiber rich foods. I do not suggest any medication for the same.
Regarding the boils, you can apply calamine lotion to the affected areas. I agree with your doctor to not use any skin treatment gels now. However, Lactocalamine or calamine lotion can be safely used. It would not cause any harm.
I suggest you to take lukewarm or cold water bath to soothen the skin. Again, I suggest that you drink plenty of fluids orally like one full tender coconut water daily, if possible take two of it. Drink buttermilk and fresh fruit juices as well.
You should be fine soon; do not worry.
