What Does The LAVH Report Suggest?
Path report was read and Level 2 hospital then forwarded to University of Iowa. I'll only copy the abnormal parts:
Cervix: mild chronic inflammation
endometetrium: Atypical proliferation (stripe was only 2mm on US)
Mymetrium: Leiomyomas with atypical parivascular cells, and extensive adenomyosis
Left Ovary: focal serous papillary proliferation with calcifictions including psammoma bodies; no definite stromal invasion identified
I was most concerned about ovarian cancer but today my OB called with the results:
Endometrial cancer: Stage 1a/Grade 2
What say you? Can you acurately stage endometrial cancer with lymph node disection and washings. I am being told a LAVH is treatment and only treatment needed....again what say you
Stage 1A - No lymph node dissection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
Endometrial cancer Stage 1A means tumor is confined to the uterus with less than half myometrial invasion.
At this stage, lymph node DOESN'T involve and LAVH is the ONLY treatment without further lymph dissection.
Lymph node is usually involved in Stage 3C of endometrial cancer. In that case, lymph node dissection and washing MUST be required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up query.
The grade of the cancer refers to the appearance of the cells in the tumor and gives an idea of how aggressive the cancer is.
Grade 1 cancers are made up mostly of normal-looking cells.
Grade 2 cancers have more abnormal-looking cells.
Grade 3 cancer cells have a higher percentage of abnormal-looking cells.
Treatment option is same as above. Don't be worried much. You have gotten right treatment.

All the best and good luck.
