What Does The MRI Scan Report Indicate?
My brother is having sciatic nerve pain since the last 6 months. Since yesterday the pain has increased greatly and he had to be shifted to hospital this morning. He has been given pain killers to reduce the intensity of pain. I am attaching the MRI reports for your reference. Earlier, he was trying some stretching exercises suggested by the Physiotherapist. He is currently admitted in Singapore General Hospital.
When shown earlier at the same hospital, specialist had suggested surgery. However, my brother is not very keen for it and wants to explore other options.
Please suggest.

Surgery should be considered
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I have reviewed the reports and the MRI films.
MRI shows spinal stenosis at L4-L5, L5-S1 level and degenerative disease of the disc at these levels.
There are many treatment modalities for pain relief like exercise, physiotherapy, activity modification, epidural steroid injection and pain relieving medications.
If all these therapies are not working in his case, leading to severe pain and restriction of activities, then surgery is the most appropriate treatment modality.
There are various surgical options available like laminectomy and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.
Laminectomy can be done in your brother and he need not worry because nowdays, the surgery is done through very small incisions. His neurosurgeon will give him the most appropriate option.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
