What Does The Culture Test Result Indicate?

A surgical back wound laminecteomy L2 to L6 that has dehiscence 7 weeks after surgery. The results were many WBC - heavy growth of mixed Bacteria and moderate gram bacill - many pus cells. A lot of pain and redness and pus and fevers off
and on. Took three months to close with overgranulation growth later and still bleeding off and on. Now closed but lots of pain and swelling. Can you interpret this for me please.
MRI scan will help in diagnosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent pain and swelling after the wound closure can be due to a mild persistent inflammation in the area. If there is no fresh discharge from the wound line then the pain and swelling can subside by doing a hot compress and rest. Taking an anti inflammatory will also help.
Do get an MRI scan done to detect any fluid or pus collection or a foreign body inside.
I hope this answers your query.

Yes. Pus cells indicate infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The presence of pus cells do confirm the infection. The source of infection needs to be cleaned. MRI scan will help in detecting any underlying collection.

Culture test has confirmed the infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
All these findings are suggestive of an infection. These do need both local and systemic antibiotics for treatment. The culture test is confirmatory of the infection.
Regards.

Antibiotic depends on culture sensitivity report.
Detailed Answer:
The antibiotic best for you can be detected by culture sensitivity test. Doxycycline can also help. You can consult your surgeon for the proper prescriptions.
Regards.
