What Does The Following MRI Results Indicate?

Question: Hello, my sister was born oct 24th and because of some oxygen deprivation due to cord prolapse, needed an MRI. Because of the rush of everything we didnt't get to ask enough questions, so my question here is: can I have an interpretation of these MRI results and what the injury might lead to? They are as follows: "Bilateral symmetric restricted diffusion, Subtle increased T1 signal involving ventrolateral thalami. Postural lateral putamina. No restricted diffusion in brain parenchyma including cordical ribbon and paryolandic region. No loss of T1 bright signal in posterior limps of internal capsules bilaterally "
We would just really like to know what this all means. Thank you

Brief Answer:
It generally indicates mild ischemic changes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Bilateral symmetric restricted diffusion and subtle increased T1 signal generally indicates mild ischemic changes.Ischemic changes may be due to hypoxia(decreased blood supply)resulting from cord prolapse.
If possible, please upload full MRI report. It is important to know other sequences like T2 etc.Findings of other sequences are necessary for better interpretation.

Hello, unfortunately what I have told you is all we had on the report. Do you have any idea what the mild ischemic changes mean for the future?
Brief Answer:
Please find detail answer below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
I can understand your concern.
Since she has only mild ischemic changes in limited areas of brain,it is expected to recover and prognosis of mild ischemia is good. She need close observation during development.
It is important to know her present condition means her feeding, sleep etc.Generally mild ischemia recovers well and if her present condition is normal then there is no need to be worried.
She also need detail clinical evaluation by a pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you so much for that! When the baby was coming off of the thereuputic hypothermia she had a transient seizure and was prescribed a maintenance dose of Phenobarbital, the doctor and neurologist were not on the same page about this as the doctor didn't think it was necessary, what are your views on it? Should we continue with the phenobarbital ?
Brief Answer:
Please find detail answer below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
I think phenobarbitone was necessary as baby had seizure. It is only symptomatic treatment and there is no harm in prescribing that.It is very commonly practiced. It may be continued.

Thank you very much! I know there are no guarantees in this situation, but in your opinion with this kind of injury is there any likelihood of cerebral palsy?
Brief Answer:
CP develops due to severe hypoxia.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Sorry for replying late.
Progression to CP(cerebral palsy) is very unlikely.
CP develops due to severe hypoxia. There are also many other causes of CP like infections,Rh incompatibility etc.
You shouldn't worry about CP.
