What Does The Following Pap Smear Test Results Indicate?
Question: Hi, I got a call from my doctor and I have abnormal Pap smear and this is what it said on my result page. EPITHELIAL CELL ABNORMALITY. HIGH-GRADE SQUAMOUS INTRAEPITHELIAL LESION (HSIL); MODERATE TO SEVERE DYSPLASIA IS PRESENT. PREDOMINANCE OF COCCOBACILLI CONSISTENT WITH SHIFT IN VAGINAL FLORA IS PRESENT. Does this mean I have cancer and/or HPV?? They still need to run more test, my last pap smear was normal and that was in 2011. I just freaking out, are pap smear test very accurate?
Brief Answer:
It means pre cancerous
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concern.
your report means that there are some changes which are pre cancerous which is generally due to HPV.
It does not mean you have cancer right now but means that you have higher chance of developing cancer in the future.
These pap tests are not very accurate and i will advise a repeat pap after 2 weeks of antibiotics and also a colposcopy and biopsy.
Do not worry too much, as even if it is correct then also you have high cure rate.
