My opinion on VDRL & TPHA It is unlikely that you have active syphilis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
TPHA will remain positive for life if you have had syphilis once in your life time. The titre of TPHA does not matter. It is either positive or negative. VDRL usually becomes negative with complete treatment. In your case you have taken complete treatment more than once. Therefore I feel that your VDRL positivity might be biological false positivity.
Some chronic illness like systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis or any autoimmune or collagen disease, antiphospholipid syndrome, drug addiction, liver disease, malignancy etc are causes of chronic biological false positivity. Besides many febrile illnesses such as malaria, tuberculosis, filariasis, and conditions such as pregnancy, aging, and immunization might result in transient false positivity.
I feel you should not be worried about having syphilis, but it is a good idea to consult a physician to rule out causes of VDRL Biological false positivity. Physician will do certain blood tests like Complete blood count, Peripheral smear, ANA, RA factor, ANA Profile, liver function tests, Chest Xray, Mantoux test etc for ruling out some common causes of false positivity.
Hope this helped,
Take care.
