Posted on Thu, 19 Jan 2017
Question: Hi.. i did my 2nd trimester anomaly scan today.. Everything was fine but there is a aberrant right subclavian artery and it apparently increases the risk of Down syndrome.. The risk has increased to 1 in 2000 now.. I also gave my blood for the quadruple marker test.. Should I be worried about my baby? What can be done?

Brief Answer:
The risk of 1 in 2000 is not worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The risk of Down's syndrome has increased with aberrant right subclavian artery but a chance of 1 in 2000 is also very low and is not worrisome. It is best to wait for the quadruple test results to confirm it further.
Right now nothing can be done to decrease the risk. You need to have regular follow up ultrasound scans to detect any other anomaly soon.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
