Question: I have consulted your doctors before concerning this. I have had relatively mild uti symptoms for about 6 weeks. I presented with 25 wbc and 10 protein and 75 wbc and 100 protein in 2 dip urines on successive days. I was first treated with 7 days keflex bid. Symptoms lessened but didn't dissappear. After antibiotic stopped 3 days, had 25 wbc, no protein or nitrites but culture showed ecoli. Treated with 7 days macrobid bid. Further lessened symptoms. I am 2 1/2 weeks post all antibiotics. Had a dip yesterday. All negative. I still have urethra irritation just before voiding and at the beginning of stream. No other symptoms other than slightly increased frequency, ie getting up once or twice a night. However I am also taking a probiotic that requires it be taken before bed with a full glass of water. And I am very focused on it, so unsure if this is true frequency. Not very noticeable difference during the day anymore except when drinking alot of water, which I do.
My doctorsaid no xculture is necessary andtthat the lab wouldn't normally culture a perfectly clear sample. He believes, as I tend to, that irritation is continuing due to post menopausal dryness (I am 64). I have tried vaginal estriol 2grams bio identical FRM compounding pharmacy. However after just 4 doses, had significant nipple tenderness. I stopped it. Have used replens twice.
Should I assume my doctor is correct or push for culture. I don't think he will order it. I have an appointment with a gyn. Am planning on asking for her opinion and to check for irritation. They do a dip routinely also.

Brief Answer:
Not require repeat culture if asymptomatic

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Urinary tract infection is treated with antibiotics based on culture and sensitivity.
The symptoms of burning pain while micturating, frequency of urine may be presenting complains.
Your doctor is right as you have taken adequate antibiotics and dip is not showing any pus cells. Also your present symptoms are not suggestive of UTI. Sometimes frequency remain after treatment for some time due to associated urithritis.
Consult your gynaecologist for examination and treatment advise if needed for any post menopausal symptoms.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

So the relatively mild urethra discomfort is not suggestive of lingering infection to you? It, as I said, is a tingling, uncomfortable sensation when I need to urinate and at beginning of stream. It sometimes feels as if the urethra is contracting. I was wondering if perhaps that's what's happening. Sometimes it's not there at all. That's usually when the stream comes immediately. Also of some interest is that I've never had the symptom of feeling the need to urinate and having only a little. Even when I was having more frequency, there was always a genuinely full bladder, even after 30 min sometimes. I was drinking alot, taking cranberry supplements and pure cranberry juice. I am still taking the supplements and probiotics and plain Greek yogurt.
What do you think of mannose? Tried it but seemed to cause bloating.

No diabetes that I know of. This is the first uti in about 20 years. It's just that the urethra symptoms linger. There hasn't been any glucose in Dips or urinalysis.
What did you mean by further queries? You mean with you if I need to or getting repeat exams?
