What Does The Following Blood Test Report Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Hi.
My Hgb is 9.6/31.1,
Iron Saturation is 4,
TIBC is 499,
RDW 17.5, and my Ferritin is 5.
MCH and MCHC are a little low -- each by 1.5 points.
I do have proctitis and recently had a colonoscopy. I don't have much bleeding, but I'm sure it may be a small amount daily. I realize I need to see my physician. I can't see them until the end of next week unless I go to an express care clinic.
My question is: Is there any danger of waiting that long? I'm usually an active person but I'm not sure if I should continue my usual activities until I'm seen -- mountain biking, skydiving, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

Brief Answer:
You have iron deficiency anemia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question and your all reports. i can understand your concern.

Your hemoglobin is low. Your iron study show that you have low iron and high TIBC. These all findings are suggestive of iron deficiency.

You have iron deficiency anemia. You should take iron supplements and consult your physician to find exact cause. You should also go for ultrasound abdomen once.

Your hemoglobin is 9.5, so it is not too low. you can wait for some time.

You should take iron rich food like jeggary, green leafy vegetables, dates, dry fruits etc. Oral iron supplements like ferrous sulfate or ferrous fumarate can be taken to replenish iron. It will help to increased hemoglobin.

Terrific~!

I will start taking ferrous sulfate and will see my MD by the end of next week. I feel relieved by your report and will not worry from now until then. Thank you for your advice.

I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable day.
