What Does The Following Cardiac CT Scan Result Suggest?
Question: Good afternoon. I am a 57 year old man in good health. I was sent for a CT cardiac calcium scoring test (my brother passed away of a heart attack at 54) and my calcium score was 0. All good. The radiologist noted that I had a "3mm pleural tag on the right".
I gave up smoking 25 years ago. My father was a heavy lifetime smoker and died of lung cancer at 55. Should I be concerned about this or schedule follow up? I have no other symptoms (shortness of breath, coughing, blood, etc).
Many thanks. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. You require follow up.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear. Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the details.
As you are a non smoker, and the lesion picked up is very small, for all reasons practically it is a benign lesion. Lesions less than 8 mm require only follow up and most of them regress over a period of time.
Moreover please scan the report and upload it here in the reports section. I would like to see it once.
You need to be on follow up with a CT scan every 3 month period to see its course. If it is progressing or a new sign develops, then further evaluation in the form of biopsy is warranted.
Till then rest assured.
Feel free to ask further
Thanks and Regards

Dear Dr Sundriyal
The relevant section is exactly as I indicated above. There is no mention of a nodule or anything else. Just the incidental finding of a 3mm pleural tag and the reporting of the calcium score itself. Based on your prompt response, I will follow up with my primary care physician.
Is there a way to provide a positive review? Appreciate your rapid response.
