Posted on Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Question: Hi my age is 24. I recently got my lipid profile test done.
Total Cholesterol - 183
HDL - 61
Triglycerides - 178
TC/HDLC Ratio - 3
LDL Cholesterol - 157
VLDL Cholesterol - 35
LDLC/HDLC Ratio - 2.57

I also got Vitamin b12 and D test done.

Vitamin D Total (25-OH) is 5.62
Vitamin B-12 is 252.8

I am a vegetarian and I don't smoke or drink.
I have been recommended following tablets:
1. Himalayas Abana for a month twice a day
2. Uprise D3 once in a week for 4 weeks
3. Dexorange twice a day for 15 days.

I have also been advised to start exercising and change my lifestyle (avoid outside food, eat on time, don't skip meals and sleep on time) I just wanted to know are there any risks right now of cholesterol level? Can by doing above steps mentioned, my cholesterol level be controlled?
My dad had CABG done last month at the age of 49

Brief Answer:
NO risk right now /

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

NO IMMEDIATE THREAT
Care for long-term prevention only

CHOLESTEROL
HDL is good cholesterol – higher, the better.
LDL is bad cholesterol – lower, the better. Your level is high …
In the absence of any other risk factor 100 is ideal for LDL-C. In the presence of other diseases (especially Diabetes and/or established heart disease), 70 should be the aim.

Keep your weight to normal / even a little less
Good that you do not smoke or drink
Do regular EXERCISE – say walking or jogging - 30 minutes a day / at least 5 days in a week. Isometric exercise (like bull worker) is bad.
Healthy FOOD is a must. Avoid saturated fats – coconut oil, palm oil, butter, ghee, full cream milk...Avoid junk foods in particular – French fries have palm oil / Pizza has cheese / XXXXXXX sweets are made in ghee.../ Change to Poly-un-saturated oil – like sun flower oil. / Include Mono-un-saturated oil – Olive oil.
Repeat the test in 2 to 3 months.
Cholesterol can still be high, in spite of diet and exercise – you need drugs; because it is also manufactured in the liver – and that is determined by heredity. Statin is the first choice.., and your doctor may prescribe one from the class
Most likely you may need drug - because the level is high and the target cannot be reached by life style changes alone... need to check again ater 2 months of trial,,,

TRIGLYCERIDE
The level is borderline only / not alarming
Normal = less than 150 / Borderline = 150 to 199.
High = 200 to 499 / Very high = 500 or higher.
The measures above will take care of this also…

B-12
Still n normal range… in lower limits though

Vitamin D
It is deficient

Both D and B-12 can be supplemented easily..
Instead of daily dosing, weekly medication or even Injection is preferred by some
Your doctor will give appropriate prescription and follow up…
Repeat the test after 2 months …

Good luck
God bless you

Thank you so much, Sir. This helps.

My doctor currently has recommended me Abana tablets (Himalaya) to maintain lipid profiles for a month two tablets daily. Should I start having this tablet?

Also, is having multiple small meals a day preferred? Instead of breakfast - lunch - dinner?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Start Life style changes / medicine later - if needed - after repeat test

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I did not comment on ‘Abana’ – it is NOT an Allopathic medicine and it is ethically and legally inappropriate for me to say on anything on it.

NO need for multiple small meals… Your usual three meals a day is enough and appropriate
