What Does The Following Mammogram Report Indicate?

I am a 58 year old woman who is healthy. I had a mammogram (yearly) on Tuesday and I recieved a call back yesterday. They want me to come back in in several weeks for another mammogram and ultra sound. The report read: no mass and no calcifications. But nodularity in left breast. Breast composition reads scattered fibroglandular densities. I'm worried about this as I have never been called back.
I would appreciate some advice and thoughts on my report.
Thank you
The mammogram is recommended as a follow up
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. In the younger age, the breast is composed of glandular tissue and as a lady gets older the glandular component decreases and fat component increases. The presence of scattered fibroglandular densities in the mammogram is an expected finding for your age.
2. Nodularity in breast might appear because of small cysts which is usually harmless. The doctors want to review your findings after a certain time to make sure that any suspicious condition is ruled out.
3. It is possible that the area of suspected nodularity requires a second look after few weeks to know its behavior. Please do not panic as it is usual to call back patients and repeat certain investigations like mammography to follow up on the earlier findings. This is to make sure that nothing is missed on the mammography and waiting for a year to follow up might be too long.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
