Question: Trying to understand my pathology report from my recent colonoscopy.
Gross description
Received in formalin are 2 fragments of XXXXXXX soft tissue measuring .3 x .1 cm and .3 x .1 cm and submitted in toto in 1 cassette. Specimen may further fragment with processing
Microscopic description
There are two fragments of colonic mucosa showing an increased number of glands, glandular crowding and mucin depletion. The glands are lined by enlarged cells with hyperchromatic nuclei showing pseudo stratification. No high grade dyslpasia is identified.
Diagnosis
Tubular adenoma, two fragments, negative for high grade dysplasia

I have gone through your pathology report and I can say as following:
In majority of cases, the nature of polyps are found as tubular adenoma. As long as there is no high grade dysplasia found, then, there is low risk for malignancy.
You have already removed the polyps, then, it is recommended to repeat colonoscopy after 1 year from the date you removed them.

Your reply says to repeat colonoscopy after one year. Is that standard procedure for one benign tubular adenoma polyp. My post colonoscopy procedure says to repeat colooscopy in 3 to 5 years for adenoma polyp.

Now, usually, the practice is to repeat colonoscopy after one year in cases of multiple polyps. This is because after 1 year, the flat polyps can be notable and can be removed.
However, this is not applied in all cases because the actual status of colon is evaluated during colonoscopy. As I do not have your coloscopy report (only the pathology report), my opinion was based on general rules applied in case of multiple polyps found.
If your doctor advised to repeat colonoscopy after 3 to 5 years, then, you should follow his advice because he has observed your colon thoroughly and knows the changes there; data which I lack.
