What Does The Following Renal Ultrasound Report Suggest?
Examination: Renal ultrasound with Doppler.
Clinical history: Patient with ileostomy assess kidneys.
Technique: Scanning of both kidneys, pelvis and Doppler performed.
Comparison is made to prior study of July 1, 2015.
Findings:
Right kidney measures 12.1 cm in length with global mild parenchymal
loss.
There is a 6.3 cm simple appearing cyst in the lower pole the right
kidney.
There is slight prominence to the right collecting system decreased from
the prior study.
Doppler interrogation reveals patency of the right renal artery and vein
with a resistive index of 0.6
Left kidney measures 12.1 cm in length with some global parenchymal
atrophy similar to the prior study.
There is mild prominence to the intrarenal collecting system and pelvis
mildly increased from the prior study.
There is a probable nonobstructing calculus in the lower pole the left
kidney.
Doppler interrogation reveals patency of the left renal artery and vein
with a resistive index of 0.53

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing back,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,
Ultrasound and doppler findings are not serious.
There is age-related atrophy.
There is a 6.3 cm simple cyst in the lower pole of right kidney. It is generally developmental and doesn't need any treatment. You may need yearly follow up ultrasound to assess the increase in size.
There is also a nonobstructing calculus in the lower pole of left kidney. It is not a very significant finding as you are asymptomatic. I'd advise drinking lot of water.
Other findings are almost normal. Mildly prominent collecting system is not a significant finding. It may be due to many causes.
In short, findings are not serious.
Abdominal swelling may be due to many causes(not necessarily due to the edema). You may need a clinical evaluation by your treating physician/surgeon and a few more routine investigations to look into it further.
Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
Take Care
